for the fediverse to live up to its potential, you do have to report accts that violate rules. when you hit block you have the option of sending a report to the user’s admins, which is what it takes to remove abusive accts.

if someone is invoking systems of oppression in their posts or replies, it’s not just words, it’s harm that causes real stress, anxiety, ptsd etc, all of which are physically unhealthy and/or change a person’s ability to express themselves or seek and find community here

Mastodon tip for noobs and others - if you're reading a long thread on the web view, and the toots are behind Content Warnings you don't have to tap Show More on every toot. Open the thread up and look for an eye button at the top of the column. It will have a line through it. Tap that to open all the CWs in the thread.

I can't say if this feature is in any of the various apps people may be using, but it's certainly worth looking for.

When living under military occupation, something as simple as driving can often be a situation of life and death. On roads in the West Bank, Palestinians face heavily militarized checkpoints, armed soldiers, and violent settlers. From 2018-2023, Mondoweiss documented at least 45 cases of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces while in their cars. This number doesn't include those killed by settlers, or those who have been attacked in their cars and left traumatized with life-altering injuries.

In case you missed it, all links on Mastodon count as 23 characters towards your limit, no matter how many characters the link really is.

So, you don't need to use link shorteners on Mastodon as they won't actually affect the link's length.

Mastodon does this because it's better for everyone's privacy to avoid link shortener services, it means people can see what they're clicking on, and the link won't stop working if the shortener service shuts down.
