Taxing property owners is the laziest revenue generation plan ever.
How about worry about attracting employers and industry to your region through low taxes and leave the citizens to build a nest egg and become prosperous?
Property tax is very Communist. You have to pay for a recreation center you may never use. A hockey rink. A skate park. A hiking trail. Community services.
You could go lifelong really only using the roads and those get left to their abject fates.
It's wild.

I'd argue that the real problem is you can't own property where a system of property tax exists. The government maintains ownership and like any landlord it will boot you if you fail to pay your rent.

"Schools" are literally half the problem. More than 50% of property taxes fund government "schools". After defeating the Germans in WW I, the US adopted Prussian schooling. As G. K. Chesterton put it, "The greatest tragedy of war is that the victors adopt the worst aspects of the vanquished." (The Romans arguably adopted the best of Greek culture - but that seems to be an exception.)
Today, 1 in 10 students are outright molested by teachers and staff - by the governments own record keeping (just the ones reported). Students in our area are taken without parents knowledge or permission to murder their babies or get spayed/neutered. Rush Limbaugh rightly nicknamed them "screwels".
If most parents refused to participate in the literal rape of their children - funded by property taxes - the govt schools in our area would die (budget is proportional to attendance by law). Instead, people like me are "extremists".
