I did some final testing before packing it up to take to work and demo for students. #retrocomputing #Altair

I teach people certain habits to use in their work. The benefits are often a bit delayed. This leads them to wonder when they will benefit and to doubt whether they're doing it right.

Let me offer this observation: you probably care less about doing it right than you care about whether to keep trying.

Is that so? Maybe yes, maybe no.

Either way, I encourage you to clarify this in your mind, because different strategies help in each of those two mind states.

Many folks asked me about this, so I wrote a statement on why I resigned from working on Rust:

I hope you are donating from your own pocket to help.

When I worked in China, for a multi-national, it was remarkable to see the attitude difference between the colleagues in USA and in China.

USA; a lot of talk and activism that someone else should do something.

China; individuals organized charity, from auctioning donations at work, to collecting old clothes, toys, kitchen utensils, ++ and PERSONALLY driving the collections to needing rural communities in China.

But, since I have a very offline family, I can safely share here that I just sent a "Golden Girls Clue" board game to my sister's house for her birthday, with a gift note that said, "Thank you for being a sister." In case that makes anyone chuckle!

Hot take:

living a life of servitude and self sacrifice for family shouldn't be traded for a career by choice

your kids, your love, and your old age will be the only ones remembering the decisions you made

i would rather be rich in life than rich in bank

@grumpygamer Finished RtMI yesterday. Loved it. Laughed out loud. This is nostalgia with the right amount of self-reflection.

Looks like they usually didn't, or if they did, they did it in a platform-specific way -- the naive approach being to probe memory with read/write checks in the banks, but that breaks if address decoding loops around.

An original mouse pad from my visit in Mountain View at Sun Microsystems in 2008. This was a give away for visitors :ablobcaramelldansen:

What an experience... Really, it never took me so long to implement a Single Linked List in Rust. But fortunately enough, this guide helped me a lot to wrap my head around the theory behind Rust and references such that I was able to implement this single linked list!

After this experience I was contemplating how save single linked list in other languages really are...

Ahh, finally it arrived. I am looking forward to dive in this book 😀

Recently I repurposed an old Beaglebone Black (32-Bit) board to run Pi-Hole on it. I didn't realize how much advertising is crammed in some websites. Some page structures go south because of the missing advertisement...

My newly acquired Wim Modem 232 works like a charm. Logged in to a BBS for a hack of a long time 😍

Looking forward to bring my old Mac SE/30 to the internet or at least to connect to a BBS 😂

I have to confess that the lsp-zero plugin for neovim brings autocompletion to a whole new level. Just extremely awesome!
