Satyendranath Bose was a brilliant theoretical physicist born this week in 1894 in East Bengal (now Bangladesh).
In 1924, while on faculty at the University of Dacca, he wrote a short paper to Albert Einstein about indistinguishable particles related to quantum theory.
Einstein immediately recognized Bose’ genius, translated the work into German & made sure it was published. Bose ideas led to Bose-Einstein statistics which continue to be studied in quantum mechanics. #science #history
The system I accessed worked well and I had my first dose of Paxlovid within 3 hours of my first call to my doctor. The only hurdle was I had to snowblower the alley exit, which I had cleared this morning, because the city plowed it shut. #COVID #COVID19 #publichealth
I managed to avoid the Covid for nearly 3 years…but not today. I have to say that the takeoff since my positive test at 1PM has been impressive. Glad I got all the recommended #CovidVaccination and now scrambling to get Paxlovid. Next pandemic we need to rapidly scale up a health services corp with any interested college students, retirees, the general public, etc to facilitate more rapid testing/screening, vaccination and antiviral prescribing. Winter dawn clouds reflected in a California Central Valley wetlands pond.
We were not sure quite what we would find this morning. We had been photographing in this area over the past couple of day, mostly in less-than-spectacular conditions. The first day was marked by the passage of an exceptional weather system,... (continues: https://gdanmitchell.com/2023/01/05/wetlands-pond-winter-sky)

BTW, here's a little interesting fact. You may have noticed that cameras in the House the last few days are frequently focusing on groups of congresspersons and areas other than the front of the chamber. This is NOT typical. C-SPAN operates the cameras and feeds them out. Normally, House leadership controls where the cameras point, and that is virtually always to the front, avoiding any other areas or groups of persons in the chamber. But with the House leadership in limbo, C-SPAN has full control, and they're wisely making the most of it!
I've been struggling with this myself, so I thought I'd repeat it for other people that might be dealing with the same thing:
Not every hobby needs to be a project. Not everything needs to be a whole *thing* with a goal and an endpoint. It's okay to not finish something. It's okay to pick up something for a bit, explore it, start making something, and then drop it without making any "progress".
Productivity is capitalist bullshit that doesn't need to infect your free time too. Have some fun
