The United States has the best and most reliable economic data in the world. Those data allow American businesses large and small to understand and respond to changes in the economy, including shifts in the workforce. Those data also allow policymakers at all levels to create policy that is more relevant and useful. These things cannot happen if the data are skewed to please those in power; that is exactly the reason why we do not rely on the economic data produced by the Chinese government.
Trump's removal of the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics because he didn't like the data makes America less great.
"If all the different concepts of the true, the human, and the good are not to be privatized and excluded altogether from the public square, or alternatively if the public square is not to become a gladiatorial arena of special-purpose groups fighting to the death, then the task of knowing how to live with our deepest differences is becoming more urgent--not less." -Os Guinness, "This American Hour"
