The details are pretty bananas. And they get at the grim truth of what flourishes as local news coverage withers.

Today’s linguistic success was hearing back from a French accordion maker, who replied to a query in French, saying "Votre français est impeccable, pas de problème." Zut alors! 🤣 French Higher in 1989! I know it’s in their interests to make potential customers happy, but I’ll still take that as a win! Are folks really pressuring independent artists, authors, etc., not to promote their work here?

Do you also picket your local independent cafe and mom and pop stores? What happens if you succeed in shutting them down? That’s right, you end up with a McDonald’s in their place.

Please learn to separate capitalists from folks trying to survive under capitalism. Independent people trying to pay their rent isn’t advertising, it’s existing. What Coca-Cola does is advertising.

I've seen too many small-instance admins calling with network-wide #fediblock type posts for some shallow reason.

@Fullnihilism This stuff is mostly happening in the #fediblock hashtag. But if an instance is blocked, the mod team's toots about the actions they've taken don't federate, so the other mods/admins don't know.

I think there needs to be some kind of out-of-band way for admins/mods to talk, whether that's Matrix or a private instance everyone has alts on or something like that. But it seems clear that admins/mods need to talk, even if their instances are mutually blocked.
