We have compared the Tutanota desktop client (beta) to Thunderbird and Evolution. Let us know what features we need to add before pushing it out of beta! 😃😍 #opensource #emailclient

@Tutanota The most important is the ability to download (export) emails to your hard drive in a standard format you can use with standard email engines. For free.

IMAP is a great standard, it has many more great features (automation, managing multiple accounts etc.). You could also try making Tutanota compatible with IMAP itself. Protonmail kinda failed in implementing IMAP, it's not even available to normal users, and the Bridge is a separate closed source program with restrictions.

@KaonHunter @dialyzer Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately, there are a few draw-backs with IMAP: * DAta is not encrypted locally, * other connected mail services do not encrypt on the servers (this would give people a false sense of security when using the Tutanota client), a bridge/or plugin is a lot of work & is very hard to make it function flawlessly. That's why we stick to our decision, but we want to enable connecting anexternal IMAP account: github.com/tutao/tutanota/issu

@Tutanota @dialyzer Okay, in this case I misunderstood the question. You are not asking what features you need to build a email client which can be compared to thunderbird, you are asking which features tutanota desktop needs to not bother the user because he/she can't use thunderbird 😉

In this case I vote for bulk Export of emails to make easy backups of my mail.
