@matthew_d_green “Some humans would do anything to see if it was possible to do it. If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.”

People who make the rules and have the power and money usually try to make rules that give them more power and money. This is why more than half of Congress is multi millionaires and keeps electing more. Because the rules are made for them by them. Pass this bill.

President Biden should give all workers including rail workers sick leave through executive order.

dyedgrey boosted

Have to agree with Garak here, all exploted workers should #strike, if the withdrawal of their labour disrupts the "economy" then clearly their contribution is important and their demands should be heard.

America 2022:

Via Max Berger:

Let’s be clear on what just happened here:

1. The richest man in the world bought Twitter

2. He gave info from Twitter to Matt Taibbi to spread right-wing talking points about Hunter Biden

3. Trump said those allegations were grounds to terminate the constitution

dyedgrey boosted

Both Dems and GOP requested tweet deletions, and censorship. Both parties are at fault.

For all you righties out there - We're mad at Biden because:
Didn't legalize weed.
Didn't get 100% student loan forgiveness done.
Didn't back workers in the Union Rail strike.
Hasn't worked on Healthcare for All.
Still is implementing Trump's inhumane bs border policies.
Etc.

🧵#disability #ableism #universalAccomodations

We need to have a talk about the *legal* definition of disability as compared to the functional definition of disability.

In the US, and in many other countries, the definition of disability is about the ability to be a full-time worker.

But:

1. There are many of us able to work full time who sacrifice *almost all* of our free time to be functional enough to work and

2. Universal accommodations would allow far more disabled people to work AND

This hypocrisy and callousness is truly shameful. We don’t have to live like this.

US politicians enjoy universal healthcare—but vote NO to universal healthcare for workers.

US politicians enjoy living wages—but vote NO to living wages for workers.

US politicians enjoy paid sick leave—but vote NO to paid sick leave for workers.

We need and demand better. Vote OUT anti-worker politicians. Vote in public servants committed to justice above all else.

rail workers, labor rights, Christmas, family

I was thinking about what @SlaytheSystem said today about rail workers deserving to have their lives back, to have some time with their family.

The longest my dad was away from us (in the early 80s, Navy) was 11 months. It was supposed to be 6 months but got extended. I was in kindergarten, I think? When we picked him up at the ship, I didn't even recognize him, and actually asked him where my dad was. 😢

I don't want #rail workers' kids to have that kind of experience. The workers aren't even asking for much! And if people think a #strike would "ruin Christmas," then I think their priorities around #Christmas are a wee bit misplaced.

Thank you Senator Warren for voting against an unfair contract for our railroad workers. Senator Markey, I am very disappointed that you supported imposing a contract that doesn’t allow for sick leave. senate.gov/legislative/LIS/rol #RailroadStrike #MAPoli

When crimes against historically (and presently) disadvantaged or stigmatized minority groups like #LGBTQ people are written up as "just too many guns" we miss the part about too much bigotry, heterosexism, transphobia, homophobia, and structural violence, and our need to act on those too. Also the guns but not only the guns. #ColoradoSprings #GunControl #StructuralViolence

I'm so old I remember that both the US and the UK used to tax very high incomes at 90%. AFTER you made a bunch of money THE REST was taxed a lot. If you make $1 billion you "only" take home $100 million.

How MANY problems do we have now with billionaires screwing up both countries, and the rest of the people struggling?

So don't tell me about solutions until you raise top tax rates back where they should be in a democracy.

The POINT of top tax rates is redistribution.
