"In order to truly create public benefit, we need mechanisms of accountability. The world needs a #generativeAI global governance body to solve these social, economic, and political disruptions beyond what any individual government is capable of, what any academic or civil society group can implement, or any corporation is willing or able to do." @ruchowdh wired.com/story/ai-desperately #AI #regulation #GPT #ChatGPT

@dougschuler @dgolumbia @ruchowdh @pluralistic It seems to me like the #AIHype is sucking the air out of the room that we need to speak about the wider picture. Thanks, @dougschuler

Yeah, not sure generative AI presents the sort of risk implied by invoking parallels to the IAEA. 😂

@ech @dougschuler @dgolumbia @ruchowdh @pluralistic

Not sure we are on the same page here.

What I am saying is not that there are no significant risks in GAI but rather that the hype around it has focused the discussion about ethics / responsible innovation on AI. The wider picture of human rights abuses often using more pedestrian tech deserves equal attention. We should center rights, not the technologies du jour used to abuse them.

@AlexVoss @ech @dgolumbia @ruchowdh @pluralistic I totally agree! The simplest tech can be mightily oppressive. Look at the simple process of putting red lines on maps at the loan office... 😠
