Europe followed the US into Afghanistan. Then US voters elected Trump and he pulled the plug.
Europe let the US lead the defence of Ukraine. And now US voters have voted for Trump, who wants Putin to win.
Europe has centered it's security politics around a US led NATO, and American voters have now voted for Trump, who wants to pull out of NATO.
It is time for a stronger, more capable, and fully independent Europe.
For our generation, this is our Churchill moment — it is time to lead.
@randahl
Hello, Canada here...can we talk?
@NMBA most definitely.
@UlrikNyman @randahl @NMBA There's a saying in my country that a donkey (a dumb animal) doesn't stub its toe twice on the same rock. No Americans.
@crazyeddie @edgeofeurope @UlrikNyman @randahl @NMBA I don't think that's the vibe here; I think the point is just Europe should step up and handle its own security/etc; they can do it easily if they just, you know, do it.
I disagree with Randahl on almost everything, but not this! In fact, like everyone agrees with this, I think – it's one of Trump's main foreign policy pushes, from what I can tell, even.
Maybe you just don't understand how much disdain and distaste the rest of the world has for Trump.
We simply think that 50% of the people that choose to vote (65%?) in the USA has gone crazy.
We see NO redeeming qualities in him.
I have no idea why the republican party would even allow him to run in the primary back in 2015.
And the two party system is broken.
I am torn between wishing that the USA really goes to shit under Trump and hoping that nothing bad happens for the people of the USA.
I hope that the people will learn not to elect a fascist.
When he says he will be a dictator only for the first day, he should be automatically disqualified.
When he does not admit defeat in 2019 he should be automatically disqualified from running again.
@UlrikNyman @crazyeddie @randahl You realize the dictator for the first day thing was just him being silly and saying he's going to close the border and drill on day 1, right?
@UlrikNyman @crazyeddie @randahl same thing there, he was pretty clear what he meant. You probably also think he called the white supremacist rioters "some very fine people", don't you.
@UlrikNyman @crazyeddie @randahl I feel like a better example of what you're trying to talk about is "I'm going to open up our libel laws so when they write purposely negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money." That's not something you want your president to say, for sure. But, at least he didn't do it, for whatever that's worth.
The US president has full immunity for official actions taken during the term in office, as by the latest decision of the supreme court.
I think Biden should take use this power and remove Trump and J.D. Vance.
@ech @edgeofeurope @UlrikNyman @randahl @NMBA@mstdn.ca Yep. One of the big things he sold us on is the idea that the EU countries need to start pulling their own weight. That we're getting ripped off and used by people who don't like or respect us.
I don't really buy it, but then this Ulrik guy or whatever replies to someone saying we're not all this way (Cali is pretty blue) with nope--no Americans.
You agree. Cool. It's whatever then. I don't care anymore. Hate wins. Congrats.
