@bobo_buffington @contrasocial @CaffeinatedBookDragon @pluralistic I asked for names. Not seeing any here, unfortunately. Not sure the point of this post.
@bobo_buffington @ech it's kind of a false equivalence tho: Melissa Hortman hadn't done anything in her life to warrant the level of contempt being (correctly) voiced against Charlie Kirk today.
Charlie Kirk was a straight-up nazi. He was *openly* white-supremacist.
Nazi dead. Mourning is inappropriate at this time.

@bobo_buffington @ech and note that it's actually really easy to live your life in such a way that people *don't* talk about you like this after you die:
just don't be overtly racist.
show curiosity about & compassion for people from other cultures.
don't tell people that you think empathy is inherently wrong (which kirk did).
in short, don't be a psychopath (or seek professional treatment for your psychopathy).
@bobo_buffington @ech btw Erik, while you're here:
There was a time when right-wing people seemed to have *some* sense of morality. Here's an example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrxwxoBly4U
You can find similar sentiments voiced by Bob Dole, George H.W. Bush, etc.
It's not like there was no racism among right-wingers back then, but at least that party did not identify nazis like Charlie Kirk as _speaking for_ the party. They didn't accept overtly racist lies as their ground truth. Bob Dole kicked racists out.
Today's right-wingers have lost contact with reality, and they've lost their sense of compassion. And that's extremely dangerous.
And it is **even more dangerous** to treat a nazi like Kirk as a martyr, because that's going to inspire even more fascism.
So as a matter of *defense*, we need to make it clear that Kirk is not the kind of person who died with honor. He inspired terrorism. He was an enemy of the american people, and of the planet.
@bobo_buffington @contrasocial @CaffeinatedBookDragon @pluralistic I was asking about something totally different; nevermind.
@ech @contrasocial @CaffeinatedBookDragon @pluralistic You were asking about something SOMEWHAT (but not very) different. And you are deflecting because my response doesn't fit your narrative. This is VERY familiar.
@bobo_buffington @contrasocial @CaffeinatedBookDragon @pluralistic no I'm "deflecting" because jumping to conclusions about who the shooter was is a totally different thing than what I asked about, gravedancing/gloating. If this is too much nuance, let's call it a day.
@ech jumping to conclusions about who the shooter was AND gloating about those conclusions. You can hairsplit all you want, but you can't claim some sort of moral high ground on behalf of your morally bankrupt party/side/political affiliation.
@bobo_buffington @ech @contrasocial @CaffeinatedBookDragon @pluralistic
You have the names. Now what?
@alper @bobo_buffington @contrasocial @CaffeinatedBookDragon @pluralistic I don't seem to, I think there was some confusion and Bobo answered a different question then the one I meant to ask.
@ech If you're trying to demonstrate how the moral outrage of the right rings hollow, you're doing a phenomenal job!
