I am not a great fan of modern buildings, though not from the material improvements but from the aesthetic. Also though, I find it odd the insistence on particular very costly materials for in the UK. It was very much confirmed as ridiculous when a friend did a development which was built in 2018 and replicated a Georgian era mansion house right down to intricate reproduction plasterwork detailing and oak panelling. Someone from a historical society visiting apparently commented how he was surprised how clever it was to integrate all of the home automation and underfloor heating and triple glazed window features into such an old structure with such sensitivity. He seemed quite surprised to learn the house had been there less than a year.
