Still more Brexit

The stock response to a suggestion that we might want to consider applying to rejoin the EU is that we should not look back but forward. But I *am* looking forward. Rejoining is a thing I want to happen as part of our future. It’s not nostalgia that makes it attractive, but what it would mean for the future of our country and our children. #Brexit #EU #Rejoin

@SeanJones I think the EU would welcome the UK but I don't see the UK simply joining with the same conditions as before. And that would be unacceptable to many in the UK. For example, joining the euro. Not saying something couldn't be negotiated either but it would not be as simple as some would hope.

@brianconnell @SeanJones I agree. The Brits will have to swallow quite a lot of humble pie and I’m not sure they’re ready yet.

@Qjames @brianconnell I agree, but the process will take years so we can work on the damage to our egos in parallel.

Brexit

@SeanJones @Qjames @brianconnell A majority will humbly accept the conditions because the alternative of an incompetent autocracy we have now is worse.

@engineeringdad @SeanJones @Qjames I think a more accurate picture of the future involves a Swiss or Norway style deal, one where the uk can remain outside of the EU officially, but has access to those parts ot the EU which will mollify enough remainers. It is telling that none of the main political parties on the UK are even whispering about rejoining and while it might seem like a no-brainer to a lot of people, you also gotta ask yourself why the policital parties are shying away.

@brianconnell @SeanJones @Qjames - we weren't remainers, we were just status quo. Its not enough now frankly for me irrespective of what happens that we don't have serious reform of govt structure and elections first. Our system is a disgusting corrupt and archaic pile of nonsense run by a bunch of minority elected psychopaths with little to zero actual understanding of the real world or the reality of life for the majority. They're shying away from the EU because they know they'd be found out for the stupid dishonest clowns they are and its only cause of FPTP voting that a small minority of the electorate get to call the shots. Its a total farce. The UK has always been an autocracy but now the veneer is off and they don't want to admit they were wrong because it would mean reform would have to happen.

@SeanJones @engineeringdad @brianconnell There is a need for a complete overhaul of U.K. democratic institutions. So much is an anachronism.
