Googling for recipes I used in previous years was an interesting demonstration of how broke Google search has become. My preferred recipes don’t come up on the first page of search results unless I use a specific set of keywords. The top hits are all variants of the same recipe.

I'm sure you're onto something but you haven't explained it well.

Why would Google show me your personal favorite recipes? Why wouldn't most recipes for a dish be slight variations of each other?

@ericjmorey @drmambobob
Could this be due to the recent (past few years) explosion of recipe blogs rather than Google itself being broken? I bet there are just a lot more webpages with variants of your recipes that have been created.

@rspfau I didn't know there was an explosion of recipe blogs. In any case, the top hits look like the same recipe just repackaged for different platforms.

My favorite recipe is king ranch casserole...and yes, there are dozens of food blogs with that recipe and its versions.

@ericjmorey That's not what I'm saying. I don't expect Google to give me my preferences. I'm just saying that I used to be able to find the recipe I like on one of the top hits, but now I can't find it through a generic keyword but a specific combination of keywords.
