Feature I would not use on Mastodon: direct messages. Administrators of the instance have access. How many regular Mastodon users realize this? Given the number of instances, all with different administrators, there’s no guarantee (ZERO) that they won’t be read.
When I was doing investigative journalism at uni, I pitched a story of #darkweb hitmen. My tutor (a highly respected journo) said there wasn’t enough in it for a meaty investigative feature.

There is a real risk that some contributors will stop because they don't want to do compliance work or face any legal risk as a hobby.
