Mastodon, any federated social media really, will only work if the users are there and connecting.
So, if you don't want to lose contact, or if you want Twitter to fail, you should check it out.
If you don't care, happy twittering.
Without the algorithms, you have to connect with other humans manually.
It's going to be a chore initially.

I’ve read that retooting (retweeting) is more important than liking. Hashtags yes, as these are the main way people find posts of interest.
It will take some adapting on our part (especially the CW content warning/content wrapper stuff) but I think it will be worth it. People are flocking here from Twitter.
