So, I’ve been on the hunt for a lightweight, timekeeper and invoicer that is #selfhosted and easy to maintain/customise and the best I’ve found is Kimai. But Kimai is far too complex for two people to use and I loathe having to pay for this. I was going to try and code it myself but … I mean, I’m on #fosstodon. Figured I’d ask for #suggestions.

Right now we enter or times in a #googlesheet (ugh) and I use formulas to create the invoices. There has to be something better.

@fyrfli I've been using an app called Time Recording for probably close to 8-9 years now. It's not the prettiest, but once setup it works wonders.

It didn't have ads when I first started using it, and I use the pro version now so it doesn't bug me.

At one point when I did more freelance work I used it's spreadsheet & PDF export feature to provide invoices.

@georift Is that like a desktop app? Or can it be hosted on a server for two people? Actually ... lemme just go ddg it.

@fyrfli Oh sorry to say it's an Android app, I'm not sure if it supports collaboration.

@fyrfli Is Kimai paid? or are you most concerned with the cost of hosting it? Seems to have good recommendations online.

I wonder if something like fly.io would suit to host it free of charge?

@georift Kimai is amazing. I absolutely love it but it’s far more complex than we need. We just need to record times and create invoices based on those times. The biggest issue with Kimai is the customisation of the invoices. Is not quite where we need it to be.
