@gio this is exactly the sort of thing we are constantly warning the copyright mafia's apologists about. This was a volunteer community, offering a free service, based on their own skilled labour. Nobody was losing any money because of this. This is shocking and frustrating. How do we respond to defend communities like these?

@gio the copyright mafia are only winning because they are doing a better job of communicating with artists than are the critics of copyright. I spent about 7 years working with #CreativeCommons #Aotearoa (#NZ) and the focus was always on low-hanging fruit like #OpenGovernment and #OpenEducationalResources and #GLAM institutions (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums). I got very frustrated by how little was done to reach out to musicians, film-makers etc, even the ones that supported us.
