The new #RetroFighters controller is quite peculiar. On the one hand it is an ergonomic pad for the original Xbox with hall effect sticks and triggers, this is fine. But why no compatibility with modern XBox? Why only Switch and PC? Specially when it has no gyro and this kind of puts a stop to it being used for FPS games in Switch and PC which have gyro aiming games. I dig this thing! I have an original Xbox still, but it is peculiar… #gaming #controllers #xbox #switch
For every 4 terrible games where I absolutely suck I’m having one game like this. I’m starting to think that #haloinfinite ‘s skill matching is broken. Some lobbies are full of people way over my skill level and some way below. #gaming
The biggest #gaming bargains of 2023:
Steam Deck: £314.10 right now for a handheld gaming PC. This is SO freakishly cheap for what it is.
Xbox Series S: £249 for a current generation console that plays everything on Game Pass. The cheapest way to play modern current generation games.
PC you can get for free: an old PC can run so many games either free games or older games via emulation. Don’t underestimate that old PC, you can play 1000s of games on it!
My #HaloInfinite Spartan is looking very #StarWars
This could be a Storm Trooper! #gaming #xbox
Sadly though, no improvement after this latest patch. I’m still getting frame drops.
My dream controller would have these features:
Gyro: I want to map gyro to stick, mouse, or native game modes depending on what I need. I want it to be flexible.
Advanced audio controls: The Turtle Beach Recon pad has amazing audio processing that is very useful and not a gimmick. It can do things like EQ presets, game & chat volume mix, mic monitoring, and a mode that boosts the sounds of footsteps so you can locate your enemies. This mode is almost like cheating! It works very well.
Keyboard: I usually plug a keyboard and mouse to consoles but if I ever game on the TV away from my desk I also want a keyboard on my controller.
Wired: I don’t care if the controller can work wirelessly too, but I really want a wired option as I prefer to game wired and not worry about batteries at all.
What features would you like on the perfect controller?
Video game preservation is a complex task, hindered by Digital Rights Management, limited accessibility to server code, and publisher disinterest. Without proper preservation efforts, valuable works of art risk being lost over time.
I'd like to see a video game archive equivalent to a film archive in the future. It can't come soon enough :)
Gyro aiming has been shown to be the fastest and most accurate aiming method for controller players, yet many games and even platforms, such as Xbox, lack native gyro implementation. Fortunately, there are ways to work around this issue using both hardware and software solutions.
For example, the BIGBIG Won Armor X Pro is a versatile controller adaptor that allows gamers to map the gyro to sticks, giving them gyro aiming for any game they desire. It works with Xbox, PC, Switch, and PlayStation, and can even be used on Switch, PC, and PlayStation games that support gyro without mapping to stick, behaving exactly like a PS5 or Switch pad.
Another option is Steam Input, a collection of software, hardware, and configuration utilities that Steam uses to interface with games. With Steam Input, gamers can map the gyro to stick or mouse, offering even more options than the Armor X Pro. Steam Input works with PC and gyro-enabled controllers, and is implemented impressively in the Steam Deck.
The XIM Nexus, a controller that comes with built-in gyro, is another solution that allows users to map the gyro to the stick, similar to the Armor X Pro. It can also be used on Switch, PC, and PlayStation games that support gyro without mapping to stick, and behaves like a PS5 or Switch pad.
Finally, DS4/DS5 Windows is an open-source gamepad input mapper and virtual emulator designed to connect PlayStation or Switch controllers (DualShock 3/4 and DualSense 5) to a Windows 10 & 11 PC. Like Steam Input, it enables users to map the gyro to the mouse, providing yet another option for gamers to experience gyro aiming.
Mindless pointless stupid crazy crap… but hey

Gaming PCs have long been the go-to platform for gamers due to their versatility, customization, and raw power. However, as gaming consoles have become more advanced, gaming PCs have struggled to keep up with the simplicity and stability of consoles. That is until the Steam Deck arrived on the scene, showcasing the advantages of a gaming PC that is more like a console.
One of the biggest advantages of the Steam Deck is its stable specification. By having a set specification that developers can target and QA extensively, it ensures that games run smoothly and are optimized for the hardware. This means that gamers can expect a consistent experience across all games, without worrying about compatibility issues or system requirements.
While the Steam Deck is relatively low-powered compared to high-end gaming PCs, it demonstrates the benefits of having a stable and targetable specification. If a similar higher-powered PC were to be released with a stable and targetable specification, it could provide the same benefits to developers and gamers alike.
Another important consideration is that simply having a high-powered gaming PC does not necessarily guarantee a better experience. Developers often optimize their games for specific hardware configurations, so having the latest and greatest components doesn't necessarily mean you'll get the best performance. In fact, you may experience issues with certain games if developers haven't specifically tested your configuration.
Moving away from Windows and towards gaming-specific Linux distributions like ValveOS could also provide benefits for gamers. Linux is known for its stability and security, and with Valve's support, it's becoming a more viable option for gaming. ValveOS is optimized for gaming and provides a streamlined experience that's similar to a console. By using Linux, gamers can also avoid some of the issues that come with Windows updates and driver compatibility.
In conclusion, the advantages of a gaming PC that is more like a console are clear. By having a stable specification, developers can target and optimize their games for a specific hardware configuration, leading to a more consistent experience for gamers. Moving towards gaming-specific Linux distributions like ValveOS can also provide benefits such as increased stability and security. While gaming PCs will always offer more customization and raw power than consoles, the Steam Deck has shown that there's a lot to be gained from simplifying the gaming PC experience.
Had fun with #HaloInfinite again last night. But I’m starting to think both Cliff and Chasm need some work to balance them out. I don’t dig those arenas as much as the older ones. Or perhaps players need to adapt? What are your thoughts? #gaming #xbox #gamingonlinux
Potential spoiler alert (minor)
I’m still liking #HogwartsLegacy 👍 last night’s play session was pretty amazing and I made some progress with the main story. #gaming #gamingonlinux #steamdeck
I want to play the short lived #HaloInfinite event but this game is sooooo buggy! The codebase for this game is probably an insane mess and pile of technical debt. Every time it gets a minor update there are regressions galore! Some so huge that I am amazed it passed QA.
Right now your settings, they get wiped! That’s it, you have to remember them and enter them every time you play.
I won a reward here I think. What reward? Who knows! The thing crashed… 🤷♂️ #gaming
"Sony also bizarrely claims that #Microsoft will intentionally introduce bugs into the PlayStation versions of #Activision games to undermine its business."
Erm? Microsoft doesn't need to intentionally add bugs, they do a great job of adding bugs unintentionally. Have you seen the known issues list for #HaloInfinite? Have you been a long-term Windows user?
My review of #HaloInfinite Season 3 so far is this:
* Chasm: Really cool level that encourages long-range fights. It is a classic arena level that just feels natural to play.
* Cliff: Oh God NO! Please NO!!!!! I don't like this at all.
* Bugs: Sadly the game is now riddled with bugs to the point that my PC won't run it at all, and on Xbox, it won't remember many settings and these have to be fixed manually every time you play! These are effective blockers to this game being enjoyable.
* Shop and battle pass: These look good to me, much more stuff than we normally see. So this is good.
I’ve had it with this #HaloInfinite update. Season 3 is a total mess! I’m not playing this game until it is fixed. #gaming
Playing the objective wins the game. In Strongholds always rotate from area to area to area. #HaloInfinite #gaming
Please be aware that your FOV (field of view) settings will be reset with the latest update for season 3 of #HaloInfinite.
Another small issue with this game. #gaming
Is anyone out there still playing #Splitgate? #gaming
This is my fun social media account, I will post a lot of video game stuff (mostly old or cloud gaming) and some work stuff.
If I post an image with no Alt text it is because the image is just there for decoration and doesn't provide any extra meaning to the toot.
