ChromeOS is very battery efficient right up to the point that you start working with it. Start using the Linux and Android containers with gusto and it's like flooring a twin turbo car! Inefficient.

@trinsec my mother doesn’t have a TV and she’s not had once since my dad died. She just never got round to getting a new one.

My mother in law though, she watches game shows! And she does so willingly and for free. You’d have to either pay me or have a court order to get me to do that.

@retrosponge yeah. I have Prime too, so I’ll count that as well 😄

@trinsec I’d relate more to watching YouTube on a monochrome display more than I do watching stuff live on a schedule 😂

@retrosponge most of my viewing is YouTube, Netflix (only movie streaming I pay for), and free streams.

@trinsec I have zero interest in having it. Every time I go somewhere and people watch live TV I try not to react, but this is what I see:

I’ve not had a TV connected to a receiver or cable service in over 10 years. Do you have live TV at home?

@Cloudscout I didn’t see any, then again it’s Facebook. So it sadly doesn’t surprise me 😔

I played some last night at it was kinda fun 😄

I’ve not touched that game in a couple of months or more.

Post Twitter I find myself visiting the homepages of websites more and it’s something I really like now as part of my morning routine. I constantly find stories I probably would have never seen on social

I’m switching my personal phone to Android for a while to see how I like it. I tend to switch back and forth over time.

User: I accidentally opened vim. How do you even quit this thing?

The United Kingdom has arguably the worst state pension scheme in Europe; it's time that was changed.

The UK can afford this; but governments of right and left insist that there is no money for such necessities, while allowing corporations and individuals to siphon money out of the UK economy to be stashed in tax havens around the world.

That money would be more usefully spent at home, allowing businesses, communities and individuals to thrive.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announces his plan to arrest hurricane Idalia at the state’s southern border, bundle it onto a plane, and release it in Massachusetts.

@carnage4life the plastic vs. paper straws argument is so tiny. We need to be thinking bigger as some of the largest polluters in terms of plastic are relatively small countries that can be helped to do much better. The Philippines alone is the world's largest ocean plastic contributor producing over 36% of the plastic waste in the ocean.

I witnessed this myself before the pandemic at a beach close to Matnog (Sorsogon in southern Luzon), the plastic coming off a river has literally covered the ocean floor in plastic as far as you can see! You can dive and swim, and swim, and swim and it's a sea of plastic! This is only one river and one beach but the same thing happens in many other rivers and beaches. I didn't have a waterproof camera at the time, but I'm sure footage of this place would easily reach national news as it's extremely disheartening to see the level of damage we have caused.
