A wee video over on Utter Nunsense: Ask A Sister: Why is ‘passing’ a problematic idea? Sister Alaska Lott gives their answer.
Affirmative action was never about admitting unqualified Black kids. It was always about ensuring qualified Black kids could also get accepted despite a world of systemic racism.
The “unqualified admission” you’re thinking of are legacy students—like how Kavanaugh got into Yale, or how George W. got into yale, or how Kushner got into Harvard.
Every GOP accusation is a confession, and this is no exception.
HBCUs produce 46% of all Black women STEM graduates.

Reducing funding for HBCUs would have a direct and awful impact on the number of Black women doctors, scientists, and software engineers.
Because Black women doctors have such a huge positive impact on Black patient life expectancy, reducing the number of Black women STEM grads would have knock on impacts on Black infant mortality and life expectancy, not to mention net worth, education and quality of life.
Yesterday a paper came out for a project that I’ve been working on for a while as part of my work at the Childhood Cancer Data Lab. I'm really happy about it, not because my name is on it, but because it was the result of a large and completely open process of analysis and writing. https://www.cell.com/cell-genomics/fulltext/S2666-979X(23)00115-5

Attention new people from Twitter! People may tell you to use Content Warnings (CWs) as a subject line, to help them avoid seeing your posts. Feel free to do this, or do I like do, feel free to not do it!
I use Content Warnings for, well... content warnings! I sometimes use it to filter out topics everyone might not want to hear about (Eg that other site). I don't use it to make my lived experience more palatable for others.
Folks that don't like this have unfollowed me, which is fine!👍🏿
