Beautiful images, great #maps & highly #educational!

The site I write for, like almost every news site from the NYT on down includes a twitter button for sharing.

I'd like to see a mastodon button that anyone can put on their websites to replace the twitter button that is readily available

A guide to getting started with Twitter alternative Mastodon

wapo.st/3YuVKen

Hello #Kolektiva! We just introduced a new translations feature. 🤩

You should now see a clickable "Translate" link on posts that are translatable.

All translations are done locally (on our server) through the 100% Open Source Machine Translation API LibreTranslate: github.com/LibreTranslate/Libr

This feature is *beta*, which means not every language is available and sometimes a translation may fail, or may be of questionable quality.

We're excited about this, happy tooting!

PS: It's a little resource intensive, so it may take a moment.

Hey new people joining, so nice to see you all! 👋

If you need help getting started on on Mastodon and the Fediverse, have a look at these sites:

If you still need help, @ me and I will help you directly!

Time for an #introduction!

I’m Chris Vagasky, a meteorologist and expert in applications of #lightning data and #LightningSafety. I work for Vaisala, the company that owns and operates the National Lightning Detection Network in the United States and the Global Lightning Dataset GLD360.

I like working across sectors and across sciences. One of my favorite sciences to work with is #volcanology.

Looking forward to getting to know you all and taper off of the bird site.

Here are my pets.

In this #openaccess paper, we #review current use of #satellite #remotesensing in #savannas, provide an overview of the challenges of terminology and large-scale #mapping, summarize methods used to extract #vegetation information from satellite data, and recommend several areas of emerging opportunities that will help reshape our understanding of the #savanna biome. #eochat #academicmastodon #ScienceMastodon #earthobservation

#LongCovid #longcovid.social

My partner came up with the idea of creating an instance for #LongCovid in which sufferers, carers, and allies could interact. This is how longcovid.social was born.
He saw how useful the #LongCovid community has been for me during the past two years and wanted to make sure we have a safe space in case the bird site deteriorates.

So here we are, longcovid.social instance is now ready and hopefully will offer each other meaningful interactions and support here.

Found this hidden gem near Yuanshan station. A defunct stadium (中山足球場) turned into an urban farm.

#introduction Hi everyone. I'm a climate and environment editor at The Conversation, U.S. I'm looking forward to learning about all the amazing research underway in #climate and #earthscience, plus new ideas in climate economics, policy, and much more. Big fan of #dataviz.

"One of the most remarkable things about January’s eruption in Tonga is that it created *underwater PDCs* that travelled at least 50 miles from their source."
nationalgeographic.com/science

This is such a cool fact that I had to share. Tonga's Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai eruption was huge. So loud it was heard in Alaska. The shock waves in the caused ripples that traversed the Earth numerous times. This happened with Krakatau's 1883 eruption. Anyway, a good read.
