When I installed and launched the android #manyverse app I looked at the getting started guide: https://scuttlebutt.nz/get-started/FAQ
It states:
"The first time you join the network there will be a lot to download and process. For real, this “inital syncing” process can take up to an hour and use a couple of gigabytes."
Is this true for #manyverse as well? Space on a smartphone isn't as plentiful as on a regular computer.
Maybe you could put an answer to that in your https://www.manyver.se/faq
The amount of required storage being dependent upon who and how many people I connect with (and how long I've been connected and accumulated content), that I am aware of.
I just thought there might be a chance that it's only a few MBs (possibly accumulating to GBs over time) instead of GB(s) right from the start.
Another thought concerning the disk space issue:
If I could make #manyverse use the external SD card storage instead of the internal memory, that'd practically eliminate the problem for me.
I guess it'd be the same for many if not most android device users.
@iLikeAltitude The work we'll do in the grant should also introduce partial replication, which means you wouldn't have to download everything, and wouldn't have to fear who you're connecting to and how much data they have, because you'd download always "at most X megabytes"
