at some point I developed a habit of doing ctrl-a ctrl-c every time I'm about to submit a large amount of text into any online form because for some reason about half the time as soon as i press "submit" i will either get "session expired" or the page will just refresh and reset the inputs without submitting

My experience is that while I too at one point made this a habit of mine (maybe 10 years ago or even earlier), it has gotten much better.
I think browsers often save me via the back button taking me back to a filled in field that I can at least copy the text from.
