Why can't I follow people at QOTO.org do I need to move servers? @Mastodon

@drcaberry A lot of instances have a policy of not federating with instances that federate with nazi instances. QOTO federates with anyone and is pretty dubious itself (seems to be used mostly by "debate me!!" contrarians, anti Ukraine ptopagandists, etc.) so lots probably block it.

@dalias Thank you for letting me know, I will share this with my friends over there. That I can no longer connect with.

@drcaberry @dalias testing. So do you see this and do you have the option to follow me? (I’m NOT in that category and will change servers if this one is not moderated enough)
I will say that I haven’t seen anything locally that resembles that kind of toxicity.

@jeremysayz @drcaberry I'm trying to figure out what the full story on QOTO is and why the folks running the instance are so adamant against following fediverse best practices in regards to not federating with hate sites.

@dalias @drcaberry I wonder if there’s some hIsToRy there. I’ve already started the process to move to another server (based on where the majority of my science followers seem to be - to choose a simplistic heuristic)

@jeremysayz @drcaberry Some lovely mixed messaging on whether it's a feature (to be able to keep tabs on bad actors) or an ideological position "we don't take sides between nazis and the people nazis target"...

Regardless of their intentions though, I'm pretty sure the instance will end up being used for abuse.

@dalias @drcaberry and I don’t want to waste energy on server ideology. Seems like a lot of good folks are on mstdn.science.

@jeremysayz @drcaberry I already encountered someone from QOTO "using the reply function to spam" with links to tankie publications on Russia vs Ukraine in a thread that was at best mildly related.
