There’s so much to be thankful for but I wanna give a special shoutout to the Earth humans that make up the #HubbleSpaceTelescope team (#NASA, #ESA, #STSci @spacetelescope, et al.) for their undying hardwork & diligence.
This beautiful image is a result of such hardwork. One of the most photogenic examples of the many turbulent stellar nurseries the #HST has observed during its 30-year lifetime, this portrait features the giant nebula NGC 2014 & its neighbour NGC 2020. #Astrodon
About 2 hours exposure of the #Andromeda #Galaxy #M31 last night from my driveway.
#Fujifilm X-T4 through Meade 70mm APO. Stacked in Sequator.
This new Hubble image, captured and released to celebrate the telescope's 23rd year in orbit, shows part of the sky in the constellation of Orion (The Hunter). Rising like a giant seahorse from turbulent waves of dust and gas is the Horsehead Nebula, otherwise known as Barnard 33.
The Horsehead Nebula is approximately 422 parsecs or 1,375 light-years from Earth.
A look at the distribution of mammals on Earth
There are lots of humans and cattle. Not too many wild animals.

I hear a lot of people in Houston are complaining that the local cbs affiliate #khou11 cut away from the Buf vs Det game for a weather update at the end while Buf was coming back.
Embarrassing. Not for ch 11 cutting away, but for the people complaining. I’m still not over a notable Buffalo Bills comeback from almost 30 years ago, and people are complaining they couldn’t watch another one? This is why Houston doesn’t have an NFL team any more.
How can you study the atmosphere and clouds on a planet 7 quadrillion kilometers from Earth? The Webb telescope team prepared this helpful video explainer.
It still amazes me that such things are possible. I'm #thankful for the many clever minds who figured this out & dedicated their lives to expanding human understanding.

30 Doradus (the Tarantula nebula) as seen by #Hubble and #JWST.
30 Dor is a star-forming region about 50 kpc (170,000 light-years) away in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way. It is home to some of the hottest, most massive stars we know. (1/)
Image is 7.24 arcmin across - about 110 pc or 360 light-years.

Christmas decorations are going up! You’ve got the tree, lights, asbestos… Wait, what?
For decades, asbestos was sold as artificial snow. It could be bought in boxes to be sprinkled onto trees, ornaments, nativity scenes, etc. It was so popular, many older ornaments still have traces of asbestos.
It was also used in film. The most famous scene with asbestos snow is in Wizard of Oz (1939), when snow falls on Dorothy and her friends, waking them up.
I hear new people noting how chill, tolerant, and pleasant Mastodon is.
Mastodon isn’t chill or tolerant or pleasant. It’s a tool… a foundation on which to create and maintain a culture.
It’s those who’ve been on Mastodon, run servers, and served as admins who did the hard work and created the culture you now enjoy.
Now, it’s your turn. The only way it stays tolerant and chill is by us doing the work to keep it that way.
A good example of, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
This is the website of the brewery owned by Richard Fierro, the veteran hero who tackled the Colorado Springs gunman. It has been suggested that we could buy out all their merchandise and gift certificates to show our appreciation, and I endorse that suggestion.
