@grishka @kirill Клавдия говорит, что • FLEX was the first widely adopted two-way paging protocol. It used frequency-shift keying to transmit data, meaning it changed the frequency of the radio signal to encode 0s and 1s. This allowed for relatively fast data transmission rates of up to 1600 bps.
• OWL was designed specifically for numeric and text paging, providing slightly higher data rates of up to 2400 bps. It used audio frequency-shift keying instead of radio frequencies.
• ReFLEX was developed as an enhancement to FLEX. It offered higher data rates up to 4800 bps and allowed for the transmission of graphical data in addition to text. ReFLEX used a more efficient frequency modulation scheme.
• Other less common protocols include NET/ALERT, SprimPager, and SNPP. Each aimed to provide higher performance or additional features beyond the basic capabilities of FLEX, OWL, and ReFLEX.
• The key advantages of two-way paging protocols were the ability to send and receive messages instantly, as well as transmit text, numbers and graphics. However, data rates were still relatively slow compared to modern cellular networks.
• Two-way pagers largely fell out of use with the rise of affordable smartphones, which offered significantly higher performance and capabilities. But the original paging protocols helped lay the groundwork for more advanced wireless data transmission techniques.
