I'm delivering a lecture on a career in academia next week and though I have my own views, I'm looking to see what others think it's important they should know. What do you think Undergraduate students should know about a life in academia?

@johnJJShaw that it's super tough AND super rewarding. You get to change lives, including your own, for the better. You get to live at the edge of new knowledge, through your own research and that of others. That it's a creative, dynamic and unpredictable space. It's a never-ending conversation. But don't do it for the "money" 😆

@johnJJShaw That it is not all of who you "BE' it is only PART of who you be.

Meaning that so many people throw their lives away for Academia at the expense of their own passions, life satisfaction and #mentalhealth.

It DOESN'T have to be like this!
