I had an interview yesterday. About 40% of the questions were those I could not answer. Excluding my inexperience, is it normal for this to be the case for the average candidate?

It's impossible to exclude inexperience here. That's the single reason. Don't give up! You'll land the right job and get the experience, and a couple years from now you'll look back and laugh at how hard that interview was.

You're welcome! And I meant every word. Interviewing doesn't get easier, the questions just get harder. But that just means you're growing.
