@thor Yeah, that would be great, too. What's stopping glitch-soc people from implementing those?
@thor I was looking at the About page and it seemed like a relaxed instance with better features than regular Mastodon. If I remember correctly, the only thing I missed were the quote posts that I so extensively use.
@thor That's even better and sounds much less impersonal. I'll use it from now on. Thanks.
By the way, the other day I was looking at berserker.town. That's a pretty cool instance you have there.
@loke I don't like the underground. I like to know where I'm going and how I'm getting there (it helps me get oriented in unknown places), and I enjoy sightseeing.
“Content creators” is just a generic term for artists, essayists, filmmakers, authors, photographers and many more professions. I don't particularly like it either, but I'm not going to give you a list when I have a simple term to refer to all of them.
There are real issues in the world to be pissed about. This is _not_ one of them.
@Ca_Gi Settings > Content > PeerTube instances. There you can add instances by pasting the URL and select the one you want to use as default.
After that, you open the menu and, right below the title of the app, you'll probably see “YouTube“. Tap on that and change to your default PeerTube instance.
@lohang Congratulations! Can you talk about it? Or at least give us a hint? I'm curious.
@vaartis Yeah, you probably shouldn't. But I, on the other hand, should. No, I must!
@akien, I see you're French, so you surely are a nice dude. Could you please give priority to this PR? It would make vaartis very happy.
https://github.com/godotengine/godot/pull/70306
Or, better yet, why don't you hire her? She's a top-notch programmer and game developer. You have 1500+ PRs open (I'm not calling you lazy or anything. It's just that it's a lot to sort out), so you could really use the help and I'm sure she would do a great job.
Thanks, man. (Or, as they say in France: _merci, l'homme_.)
@vaartis The maintainer seems to be on Fedi. You could politely tell him to hurry the fuck up and approve your PR before the other 1541 that are also open.
@mcduquesne I would say there are better options. For instance (no pun intended), on YT there are plenty of people who sell products for which the videos serve as a sort of preview (i.e., teachers who sell language courses or textbooks, comedians who sell tickets to their shows, artists who sell comic books).
In general, video monetisation seems to be seen on YT as a way to get the ball rolling, but most people who are successful there end up doing some sort of IRL work and keeping YT as a means to remain visible, so to speak.
@Linux_in_a_Bit @alienghic@octodon.social @ChrisWere
@Linux_in_a_Bit That's very expensive in terms of storage and bandwidth. 480p and 720p is what makes sense for now.
@chjara His penis could be huge for all I care, but it would still be full with the excess stupid from his brain.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but the Fediverse seems like a great foundation on which to build a sustainable Internet economy.
Think about it: the Fediverse encourages self-hosting, so a hosting company specialised on Fedi software and hardware needs could be profitable. I know there's already at least one project like this.
What about #PeerTube? Authors in the same area or with similar creative itches could set an instance up, share costs and monetise it with donations or sponsorships. Same could be done with #Funkwhale for podcasts.
Microblogging and blogging platforms can be used to publicise and discuss such projects.
Every step of the supply chain can be independently funded and managed without external interference from BigTech companies.
@alienghic@octodon.social I always thought of #PeerTube as a great way for creators to “seize the means of production“, that is, to get together with like-minded people in some sort of cooperative, create an instance where they all shared production and hosting costs, and monetise their content as they saw fit (with sponsorships from brands, donations on LiberaPay, etc.). Of course, it would take a while for those instances to be sustainable, but that's the way to go, in my humble opinion.
I think having actual ads would be detrimental to the platform and I'm glad PeerTube devs decided no to include support for that (even though it could still be added as a plugin if someone really wanted it).
@LukeAlmighty True.
@ayo Come on. Don't resist. You know you want to.
@noyoushutthefuckupdad Where I live, dodgy, slimy pawn shops are not a thing. Only dodgy, slimy, little men on the streets with big signs saying: “I BUY GOLD”. Example:

@noyoushutthefuckupdad @Duine @m0th I wish I could go to the bank with this thread, because it is gold.
I am, without a doubt, the most interesting person I know.
