Working on ideas for talks happening soon...

I’ve been invited to speak at a few places over the next several months and the one that’s got me all twisted up is how I’m going to inspire elementary school kids to want to get into infosec when they’re older.

How tf do I make this sound cooler than a Fireman? Yes, there’s going to be a literal Fireman.

Reverse psychology… it’s awful! Run!

Or maybe, what inspired me? Get paid to break into buildings and con people? Nope. That’s not it.

So far, I’m thinking of using a pediatricians office as the case study and relating the security of Their own personal information back to how we test our clients to make sure the fences are solid, from the outside.

How about: "Have you ever been frustrated by your computer / phone / smart-assistant when you wanted it to do thing A, and instead it did thing B?

Sometimes that is because someone other than you wants B and has more control over your device than you do.

Information Security is about making sure that your device does what you want it to do, instead of what someone else wants it to do."

It doesn't focus on the information part, but fundamentally security is about control, and elementary students have probably already been frustrated by computers and probably already have a sense of ownership == control.
