For Tomb Tuesday, here's a shot of the black angel in Iowa City, Iowa, USA.

The black angel has several local myths attached to it, but the true story is sad. Teresa Feldevert traveled to Iowa in the late 19th century. Her son passed away young. She had this statue commissioned and placed in the cemetery. She outlived her 2nd husband who rests at the base of this statue. In 1924, she passed away but nobody carved her death date. The statue made of bronze oxidized to green-black.

@bryanhansel Brings to mind the Black virgin I saw in Mexico City. Maybe also a bronze in a cathedral by the government HQ. And my favorite: the Old City in Quito has a Jesuit monastery filled with paintings from a school for talented indigenous artists run by the monastery. All the biblical stories were illustrated by students who made their subjects in their own image rather than a Spanish one. End of story, a Bishop visits from Spain and the Jesuits are in hot water when Jesus and his disciples do not look "Spanish" enough.
