@kensanata @jann #Coutersocial *was* federated, but it (voluntarily) isn't anymore because it blocks IPs from nations known to conduct misinformation and influence campaigns in the West. (Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan and Syria)
@jann @kensanata Right. Let me say this again. They *were* federated in the past, but they are not *anymore.* I have the impression that Jester was harassed about some security decisions he made and voluntarily defederated to cool down the animosity.
@knottedthreads @kensanata Okay, I thought you meant they weren't federated in that they block some IPs...not in that they do not federate at all.
PS: ALL instances should block searches for counter.social, cos it makes it look like they ARE federated when you get results and can "add" them to be followed.
@knottedthreads @kensanata Really? Cos when I try to follow someone over there, it shows their handle, I click to follow, then never see anything from them.
I tested by creating my own handle. I followed myself from my current instance to my counter social instance. I never see anything about it on counter.social's instance. The same from the other direction.
they're not fully federated - even w/IPs they don't block.
