🥥 Okay #Linux mavens & #Storage experts, I have questions:
I want to set up an external #USB drive exclusively for #backup with my Linux desktop box -- no other OS will come near it.
Bought a Seagate 8TB One Plus drive for this purpose.
If this drive is suitable, may/can I wipe & format it?
(It's formatted for Win, Mac.)
Must I create a 512MB partition at the start?
(Read somewhere that's required.)
What file format would you recommend, EXT4, ZFS, BTRFS, other?
Many thanks 4 any responses! 🥥

@jstatepost Because you're not booting from this disk, you won't need a EFI partition at the beginning. As far as format - I'd say that depends on what you need it to do. I personally feel ZFS w/o at least setting up a mirror doesn't make much sense. EXT4 would probably work fine.

@techaddressed @jstatepost Same setup here, just ext4 (+ encryption because it's quite ) portable.

Works fine since years.
