Playing with the idea of setting up a home server. Goals would be to use it as a seedbox, always-on Plex server (with remote access), and maybe some light NAS usage. I could do this off my gaming PC, but I feel like the power consumption would be wild. Considering buying a used M1 Mac Mini as an alternative. Anyone have any experience / recommendations? Mac is the platform I know the best, though I'd consider others; don't have much Linux experience at all. Power efficiency is a priority.

@adamconover I've done the recycled computer plex thing before. Let me tell you: there is nothing like a purpose built NAS. I got myself a Synology, and it is a thing of beauty. Efficient to manage, runs well, RAID, a bunch of apps (including plex). It's more expensive, but you won't have any problems with performance or management or worry about a disk failure wiping out everything. And it fits on your shelf!
