@grbenny Quality stuff. When I was in a Junior Concert Band back in the day here in the UK, we played Birdland and it's still part of my regular music listening.

@magicaltrout Wow! Must have been a challenge for kids that young.

@grbenny @magicaltrout I played in the Glasgow Youth Concert Band. This was before “Birdland”, but made me curious given the arrangements of pop/jazz songs we played. An irreplaceable part of my “growing up” in any case.

@grbenny @magicaltrout Started on French horn, but moved to EPiano when they went on tour. Graham and Ian Brierton were on bass and drums. They went on to perform with several international acts including Barry Manilow (after he stopped playing pop tunes and switched to straight-ahead jazz).

@muz4now @grbenny I played clarinet for a number of years, in the Scarborough area Junior Concert Band and intermediate jazz band Jazz Train but after Grade 5 you have to start trying a bit harder in the exams so I swapped over to bass guitar 😄

@magicaltrout @grbenny Cool. Do they call it “grade”? When I lived in Glasgow, they were all “levels”.

@muz4now @grbenny interesting, yeah its all grades, I did 1-4 as classical grades then did grade 5 as a Jazz grade, but they were certainly called grades.
