I'm very much enjoying the fact that I chose to fully join Mastodon on #musicmonday ... check out a random selection of my stuff:

If you’re thinking of giving the gift of traditional music for someone to play this Xmas, there are still plenty of my traditional tune book “Foraged Music” in stock. Order it by tomorrow morning to make the last posting day to arrive in time.

7. An Irish carol, this. It's a lullabye in which Mary, like all new mothers, wangs on about how lovely her baby is. Standard. It's arranged here by Fionntán Ó Cearbhaill with a slowly pulsing, waves-on-the-shore kind of a vibe. Gorgeous.

10. 10. A full on classic. Vaughan Williams, who knew a thing or two about tunes, arranged the English folk carol 'The Truth Sent From Above' into this woozily beautiful absolute banger. I do love a carol that sounds ancient.

11. 'Maria Durch Ein Dornwald Ging' - which roughly means: Mary walked through a forest of thorns. A German carol for Advent. The combination of tune, arrangement and voices (the peerless VOCES8) is about as perfect as you could ask for.

Children are dying. I repeat, dying, from Strep A in multiple regions of the U.K., and the first thing officials rush to say is that there won’t be “Covid-style measures.” A truly broken society.

#Threethings for Sat Nov 12:
1. Astounding image from the #Mars Curiosity rover, via Kevin Gill who is Kevinmgill on the other place. It looks like a landscape one would have fun exploring.
2. Speaking of Mars, it was glorious last night with the #Moon close by in Taurus Did anyone else spot them?
3. Had a amazing, moving, raucous time with #bellowhead in #Oxford last night. Best live band anywhere? Possibly. #Folk refracted through all sorts of lenses. Go if you can. #astrodon

Last night's gig: #Bellowhead at #Cambridge Corn Exchange, reunited for what might (or might not) be their last tour.

To my ears, their recordings have never quite captured the energy of their remarkable 11-piece folk/prog/rock/other live shows, which on this evidence are as vibrant as ever. I especially love how Jon Boden and Sam Sweeney become temporary rock stars, and bring the rest of the band and the crowd with them.

I wasn't feeling great before the gig. I felt a lot better afterwards.

Finishing work at lunchtime tomorrow to visit offspring in Nottingham, and see #Bellowhead can’t wait! It’s been a few years

There have been some fabulous suggestions to my call for #NonFiction #Books you want everyone to #Read for a small idea of mine for a nonfiction #BookGroup on #mastodon. 📚

I will probably toot the list on Sunday evening but for now the group #HashTag

#WhiteHorseBookgroup use this tag for discussions & updates.

Let me know before Sunday evening which nonfiction book you think we all should be reading.

A retoot would be lovely 🙏 especially if you're watching The Match 🇺🇲 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I sat by an election denier on the airplane and he started poking me in the arm to be emphatic about his views on people stealing ballots secretly and the airplane was full and I couldn’t move anywhere so I started explaining the yellow fever in very great detail, all the way down to telling him about the bloody vomit that looks like coffee grounds and it worked. He stopped talking to me. The moral of this story is you can’t out-weird an academic; our toolset is too vast. #vastearlyamerica
