Chinese media bragging about high vaccination rates is largely bullshit because so many of us have not been vaccinated in over a year so. By Chinese scientist's own studies we are effectively unprotected and not being permitted to boost- so are getting much sicker for no reason.

One of the things I have liked about Mastodon is the encouragement to put alt-text on images. But as others have noticed, the more the network of mastodonians grows, the proportion of images with alt-text goes down.

It's not hard - please please PLEASE add alt-text to your images, even if it's just a quick note, and better if it's more descriptive.

Alan Turing was a mathematician & cryptographer who was a leading code-breaker in the team that decrypted Nazi Germany’s Enigma machine during WWII. He inspired modern computing & what became artificial intelligence.

Instead of being hailed as a genius & hero, Turing was convicted as a homosexual & forced to endure chemical castration. He died by suicide at 41 in 1954.

The British government didn’t apologize until 2009 & Queen Elizabeth II finally pardoned him in 2013. #history #science

I whiled away the whole morning in Old Parliament House, Canberra or the Museum of Australian Democracy, as it is also called.

By far the most educational site in the city, if you are even vaguely interested in history and/or politics.

After years of disillusionment with #AusPol, I came out feeling intensely reengaged with the need to stay politically aware both locally and globally.

It's worth a visit for 'Behind the Lines' alone.

Apparently, Twitter isn't allowing #writers or #artists to promote their work anymore. They'll publish the link but then, they'll deboost the post so that not even your followers see it. I write fanfic, I don't even make money from it. I do it for the love of writing.

I used to gain a few hundred views per month from posting on Twitter. Now, I get none.

I enjoy painting color wheels, and I’m delighted to have finished my first one inspired by something I saw here on Mastodon, a recent post by @arnoudbuzing showing a #mathematica plot for the function

This is one of the hardest & most important warnings for us all.

Perpetrators were people who accepted and followed an ideology that made them believe that they are better than others and that rationalized and promoted hatred & evil. It became their everyday live.

They were not monsters. They were people who did horrible and monstrous things on the behalf of this ideology. And this is the scary part of the story.

Starting on Jan 30, 2023, you won't be able to sell a car or rent/sell a house on your own Facebook Page—you'll have to use Marketplace.

Anyone who believes Facebook replaces a website needs to wake up and smell the coffee!

Meta has no problem screwing over the small businesses that depend on them!

They certainly don't care about your brand or your web presence!
