Quick reminder that not every torc is #gold and shiny!! 😉
These, from Snettisham, are simple and made from copper alloy (Bronze) and baser gold alloy.

@tess_machling some neat wire work there!
While following a lot of people can populate your Home feed significantly, sometimes people (like me) end up boosting a lot and that can unexpectedly hinder your own experience.
So if you like someone's specific posts and don't want to follow their boosts, you can go to their profile under the [...] button, and select the "Hide boosts from account" button.
There is no algorithm on Mastodon. You have ownership and control over every filtering decision instead of some robot.
So, the European Union has set up its own Mastodon instance, EU Voice, as an official channel/platform for all its many institutions - what a great initiative https://social.network.europa.eu/about

For decades, not digging an archaeological site was considered a best practice for preserving it. Climate change, however, is changing this calculus -
Sharing forward a useful new publication on the range of climate impacts on archaeology and what they mean for heritage management- #climateheritage
New discovery: 15 burials of the early #medieval period discovered during excavations in Kleinbasel. The pictures show a gold disk fibula (decorative pin to fasten garments/brooch) found in a woman's grave and a silver inlaid belt fitting from a child's grave. Dating 7th century AD.

Looking across Hawson Harbour to Hermanus. This cave was occupied by Middle Stone Age hunter gatherers between 50 and 80,000 years ago, and more recently by the Khoi-San peoples- 1,000-2,000 years ago. It is the site of an archaeological excavation by the Iziko South African Museum. #photography #archaeology

The longer I work as a historian the more I keep reconfirming that one of the top rules of history should be: "Always look up everybody's mom."
*So much* that doesn't quite make sense makes more sense when you look up mothers and sisters and the connections that get left out! #histodons #histodon #women #genderhistory
Here’s to all of the archaeologists who are going to have to field questions about the Netflix Ancient Apocalypse show from extended family members this holiday season. I feel your pain! We can debrief at the next archaeological conspiracy strategic planning meeting. #archaeology
Photos I took 1968-70 in Algeria. Tipasa, inspiration for Camus' Noces à Tipasa; amphitheatre in Timgad (not sure who the people are, could be son plus wife); Cardo Maximus Road Djemila. I imagine it was once full of cisia, esseda and carpenta. (Love the introduction to the topic here: "Transportation during Ancient Roman times was way different than what we have today. There were no cars, planes or even trains during this time" No iphones, either!) #archaeology #history #Roman #Algeria
