@tk I'm not upbtobdate with JVM ecosystem, but I recently heard that Kotlin is Scala done right and the industry is switching to that instead. At least that's the big thing in Android land. Not sure about Big Data. All the data scientists at $dayjob use Python.

And if you want to learn functional programming for fun, as opposed to job opportunities, learn Haskell instead. Or OCaml, if you want sth simpler.

@wolf480pl @tk kotlin isn’t scala done right. It’s the java++ parts of Scala with everything else dumped out. If all you want is a bette java, then kotlin is a good choice. If however you want a functional programming language that can be used professionally, and that doesn’t try to block you from dropping to imperative style when needed, scala is a great choice.
