REMEMBERING HELEN LEVITT ON HER BIRTHDAY - COLOR PHOTOGRAPHS
August 31 - Helen Levitt, the great American “street photographer” of New York City, was born on August 31, 1913, in Bensonhurst, a neighborhood in the southwestern part of the New York City borough of Brooklyn.
- In 1959 and 1960 she received two Guggenheim Foundation grants to make color photographs on the streets of New York. In this post I want to highlight her color images. Her 35mm color slides were exhibited as projected images.
