One thing that strikes me about the Trump documents case is that it's almost entirely a sequence of unforced errors that yielded almost no obvious benefit to him. It's just narcissistic recklessness, lies, doubling down, obstruction, conspiracy, rinse and repeat.

He could have simply returned the documents he knew about and cooperated in the recovery of the others. But he can't help himself.

Unless in his sociopathic mind he thought those documents would come in handy for some future, nefarious purposes. Wouldn't it be just like him to outsmart the best minds at DoJ! Remember, tRump is a very stable jenious. 😜 😉 vanityfair.com/news/2020/01/yo

@RichStein @mattblaze I've definitely seen this hypothesis floated. The notion that he expected to be able to use the information in those documents as future leverage against political opponents... Somehow disregarding or failing to understand the fact that he no longer had the right to possess those documents when he's no longer serving the American people.

@mtomczak @mattblaze
I harbor no conspiratorial feelings about the guy — and certainly none that would require him to skillfully play 3-D chess. I was a college kid who worked in Atlantic City when he was regarded as a demigod by the press in his casino era. Those who got close enough knew that he was a disaster waiting to happen; nobody knew that his fuse would be quite this long however, nor quite how disastrous he would be.

Charges couldn't happen to a more deserving schlemiel.
