@trinsec Born from a programmer's laziness. The ultimate irony.

For the highest level of meta, you can have a program which writes an implementation writing program which writes an implementation, lol.

I could do something very crazy. I could write an implementation writing program.

"Ms Bell refuted previous assertions by Mr Morrison that he gave himself the powers in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, saying self-appointments to the treasury, home affairs and industry, science, energy and resources portfolio had "little if any connection to the pandemic".

She said Mr Morrison had also instructed his department to prepare a brief for his appointment to administer the agriculture, water and environment portfolio, though he decided not to proceed with it."

The previous Australian prime minister secretly appointed himself to several ministerial positions (which should be separate to avoid an unholy concentration of power tbh). Also, no one knew that he did this.

Thankfully, the more conservative right wing government lost the election last year, or they might try to do something... hasty and problematic.

deno.com Deno is pretty cool, because you can restrict the access each bit of code gets to the system (it is also faster than Node.js as it overturns some fundamental bottlenecks in how that is implemented).

As a security wonk, that is pretty cool to me.

Of course they'd use Tokio, lol.

Did Deno ever go anywhere? I recall it was supposed to be a competitor to Node.js?

Let's see if anything has changed in Go since I last played with it.

Of course I'm going to write my own fediverse implementation or what sort of programmer would I be...

reference. Cool joke, eh, lol.

This round is likely going to be a lot more technical than anything else, so I guess there won't be more polls.

Hope you enjoyed the poll.

@trinsec Admittedly, I'm not just talking to you, I figured that would be something interesting to add to my feed too, lol.

I'm aware the EFF ruffled someone's feathers for... Uh... Being principled about protecting the Internet, rather than taking extreme measures to take down one specific unpleasant site.

That's kind of the reason they exist though (and they appear to have come up with alternate avenues which might help tackle this class of problem in the general).

@trinsec To start with though, "propaganda" posits that there is some shadowy person with shadowy scheme out there. This is in stark opposition to the far more mundane explanation of people standing up for their own rights.

Or I suppose, women embracing a higher quality of life, rather than being strictly controlled about what they can do and wear.

So, you're kind of going to get some craziness there, or that's my opinion. I can't really comment that much on this one.

@trinsec Once you're paranoid enough to pass a "propaganda" law, you're just looking for shadows in everything, I guess?

It's like those dictators who were worried about women wearing shorts or jeans or something, I can't recall exactly, because it might spread "Western influence".

I suppose "propaganda" is also very vague, if it's due to some law, although it could be just as cultural.
