Appeals Court decides that woman who had $8k seized through civil forfeiture, without being charged with a crime, should be given more leeway in meeting deadlines to file documents in order to try to get it back.

theguardian.com/technology/201 As a reminder, this is the country which says they would be reasonable in censoring social media. The United Kingdom.

Here, there's a huge battle over... Users posting information about celebrities which is already in the public domain and well-known.

Apparently, KOSA's "knowledge standard" has changed from "reasonably likely to be used by a minor" to knowing that minors use your site.

The obvious problem with this (as pointed out by others) is that:

a) If a site simply knows that minors have been known to use their site, that could be grounds for state harassment.

b) As others have pointed out, if the moderation isn't perfect (particularly when it comes to removing a particular minor from a platform), or gets circumvented, that particular minor might be used in evidence and that *might* lead to liability.

This might be a problem for very large platforms.

c) Older minors are not the same as younger ones and any standard here is going to be a bit of an one size fits all solution.

d) There is still a big chilling effect on freedom of expression.

After reading some articles from @fsf I decided to do a social research about user freedoms. Here are few questions below:
1️⃣Is it important for you whether you can view source code of programs you use daily, or not?
2️⃣Whether you can compile them from sources or ask a person you trust, to compile it for you?
3️⃣Do you want an option to use web application to run with different back-end?
4️⃣Do you want an option to use web application with different or customized user experience or user interface?

Is there a way to do superscript on here (for citations)?

Apparently, quote "toots" are one of the perks of being on this instance (and certain not mastodon software), lol.

Oh, yes, I forgot that Higanbana was also a Ryukishi title. It's an interesting one.

I don't know why that one always slips my mind o.O

Ciconia seems to be more sci-fi (which is quite a departure from the previous titles) and the creator made a point about opening the scale beyond just a little village or island.

Ciconia is kind of a "lure you in with free content and the rest is premium" game, hehehe.

I dunno if it is worth buying tbh.

Ciconia's opening is kind of cool. It shows up in the first half hour of the story, so it is probably not much of a spoiler.

As I pointed out before, Ciconia is worse than Higurashi and Umineko, lol.

Well, it's kind of hard to beat those two, to be fair.

Ryukishi is probably setting something up though. He always does. And he likes making use of red herrings.

First off, it's interesting to see a discussion about trigger warnings. Well, I suppose they've been rebranded as content warnings.

As far as I know, the science tends to show that people tend to underestimate their own resilience.

A very effective way to fight PTSD involves controlled exposure, such that a trigger will no longer be upsetting (and often, the trigger is not the scene but the precursor to the scene, such as someone standing there).

In any case, avoidance might work in the short term, however, it's not good in the long run.

The warning itself can also contribute to anxiety. It's particularly questionable whether it's useful in an educational setting.

One time, I saw a content warning on an article about legal policy, simply because it had to do with taking down actual child porn on the Internet (and the implications for online privacy and those other things we tend to talk about).

It didn't even really cover that subject at all. It was an article purely about legal policy. Is this not too cautious?

Wow, there are quite a lot of people joining the fediverse lately.

psychologytoday.com/us/blog/wo Since the subject of "trigger warnings" has come up again (and there's been a bit of interesting discourse), this article should be enlightening.
