This round is likely going to be a lot more technical than anything else, so I guess there won't be more polls.
Hope you enjoyed the poll.
I'm aware the EFF ruffled someone's feathers for... Uh... Being principled about protecting the Internet, rather than taking extreme measures to take down one specific unpleasant site.
That's kind of the reason they exist though (and they appear to have come up with alternate avenues which might help tackle this class of problem in the general).
@trinsec To start with though, "propaganda" posits that there is some shadowy person with shadowy scheme out there. This is in stark opposition to the far more mundane explanation of people standing up for their own rights.
Or I suppose, women embracing a higher quality of life, rather than being strictly controlled about what they can do and wear.
So, you're kind of going to get some craziness there, or that's my opinion. I can't really comment that much on this one.
@trinsec Once you're paranoid enough to pass a "propaganda" law, you're just looking for shadows in everything, I guess?
It's like those dictators who were worried about women wearing shorts or jeans or something, I can't recall exactly, because it might spread "Western influence".
I suppose "propaganda" is also very vague, if it's due to some law, although it could be just as cultural.
@olives@qoto.org Crazy.. they could ban anything in any color because it's a fucking rainbow.
In fairness, the discourse around this used to be worse but has gradually gotten better over time. One even got Eugen confused with John McAfee at one point...
Is Eugen into hot jungle pursuits now?
Paraphrased:
"The discovery tools on Mastodon are so bad."
"Mastodon network."
"search"
"Mastodon GmBH need to do something about their servers." (This is worse because it assumes Eugen owns every server.)
I have to go back to watching this anime or reading the light novel. The list. It's so long...
"The Devil is a Part-Timer!!"
Should I watch this anime? o.O
Well, Yukichi, do you need another human? This actually ended up being a pretty cute episode, but what an unexpected surprise. #anime #TheMasterfulCatIsDepressedAgainToday

Urmm...
Sometimes, I ruffle a few (although, never too many) feathers when I hold puritans to account.
It's not something I enjoy doing. In fact it can be the very opposite, particularly when I am disappointed in someone I quite like.
In fact, sometimes, the more annoyed I am, the more I like someone and I feel betrayed, and I've dealt with a certain amount of bullshit on this Internet.
Puritanical ideologies tend to be abusive in nature and coercive. The boundaries of what are indecent also have a tendency of shifting.
Puritanism is associated with psychological harms, hateful ideologies (in particular, angry ideologies), human rights violations, and other negative things.
So, to me, it is kind of a big deal. Perhaps, puritans are silly, however, it is not *merely* that they are silly.
It is also useful to consider that puritanism is not always stereotypically obvious.
In fact, one infamous right wing group (which used to blame gay people for mass shootings not that long ago), run by Mormons, started speaking the language of "feminism" to try to promote it.
New language. Same ideology. Just as flawed.
It was this group which was responsible for Steam removing all kinds of sexual content. It was this group who was responsible for Reddit doing so. It was this group which is partially behind these "age verification" proposals in legislatures.
