Arkansas' social media "age verification" law has been blocked by a judge for violating the First Amendment.

developer.mozilla.org/en-US/do There is also this header but it only works in Chrome (and I guess it doesn't matter how someone does it).

developer.mozilla.org/en-US/do Curiously, there is a CSS media feature for testing whether someone prefers light or dark mode (which is useful for accessibility purposes), although it's a bit of an obscure one.

You'd think that Russia being so thrilled by that proposed cybercrime treaty would be more of a red flag.

@chikorita157 I'm confused by your moderation decisions.

You block instances with pure art, and alright, perhaps you have your own preferences on that.

But, then, you only "reject media" on an instance which gained recent infamy for being bad at moderating real child porn photos (to the point our admin blocked it entirely).

Looks like the Fandom Post has gotten a bit of engagement.

Anti puritan starter kit:

Unsurprisingly, a lot of puritanical arguments involve porn.

Porn is not associated with sexism.

qoto.org/@olives/1104622745318 Meta analysis of 59 studies didn't find that porn is linked to sex crimes.

There are even studies showing less crime with higher levels of porn use, even among criminals.

In regards to "sexualization in video games", some studies have chosen cut offs which are very difficult to distinguish from noise.

This drastically increases the number of false positives. Even here, they have often found results which appear to contradict their hypothesis.

The meta analysis fails to find a link between this and sexism or mental well being.

While I posted a bit of nudity (anime bathing, but that's pretty tame) where it made sense to advocate for free expression, I'm avoiding posting anything too lewd for followers as I discuss a fair bit of policy here, lol.

Judged? The judge. That is a typo. A funny typo but a typo nonetheless, lol.

Germany's "dark field" child abuse prevention program has been criticized for being ineffectual, and possibly, even harmful and counter-productive.

Whatever they come up with, I'm expecting them to respect human rights, including the rights to freedom of expression, privacy, and due process.

The judged pointed out that:

Texas didn't bother to educate parents about content filtering tools, or at the very least, they didn't put this as an argument in the lawsuit.

This meant that it wasn't the least intrusive possible measure they could have taken.

Verifying people's government identification also means the government might monitor what content someone is viewing, and that this has a substantial chilling effect on free expression.

Also, the First Amendment applies.

By the way, the judge in Texas completely eviscerated the government's arguments when he granted that injunction against the anti-porn law.

Apparently, the ACLU (I haven't heard their name in quite some time, it's usually the EFF) has filed a complaint with the FTC against MasterCard for engaging in discriminative practices against sex workers.

It's not typically that (or just that) which tears down puritans, it is also the complete lack of scientific basis for their arguments (also their lack of principle).

I have fairly consistent values.

I don't follow the meme that "it is okay because Japan is doing it", and then, snap at an American doing the same thing.

I actually find that kind of hilarious.

Just finished the first episode of One Piece.

What the holy hell have I been watching, lol. A crazy-ass pirate crew ((nope, not a crew)) ((not together)) in the making. Looks pretty smooth, I think I will get highly entertained by this series.

Not entirely sure what genre this would be. It has a dash of this, and a dash of that. Adventure, sorta fantasy, the high seas, anime-ish stuff (the way they pose), just crazy stuff in general. And it seems to work out so far.

@lookitmychicken Also, in part since you don't seem scared of porn (although, seems that Aus have some issues)...

I wonder if you've ever thought about something more granular than a NSFW but without the semantics of hashtags (where something gets shouted out everywhere).

I'm experimenting with writing a sort of fediverse implementation and that is one of the things which keeps swirling through my mind. It vexes me o.O

Show thread

@lookitmychicken Psst. Psst. This might seem like a very random question but I'm doing a bit of research into what sort of functionality someone might look for in a fediverse implementation.

So, I'm curious what might come to mind for you.

It's the nerd equivalent of "won't anyone please think of the children?".
