It appears to have started off as someone's simple C wrapper for rendering webpages and ended up being used for a lot more by a lot more people. This is why so many functions look like they have been plucked right out of C.

I don't really want to be troubleshooting (or writing extensions for) 20 year old PHP legacy code. I'd like to play with something which uses a more modern stack than that.
Even for something hosted, after the parent company bought Tumblr for a low price, they've been doing a poor job of moderation, still being censorious. Plus, I'd like to play with something more modern and fresh, it doesn't have to be something hot off the press, but not the same thing from twenty years ago.
Another strike against dubs. If someone isn't taking watching #anime as a passive opportunity to learn another language, then it's really not getting the full potential out of it.
It is also interesting how people kind of just let people get away with speculating things out of thin air like this, without any real basis for doing so, even though it is a very serious accusation to make.
It's like saying "someone who is known to speak to therapists committed suicide, this means that therapists make people commit suicide".
I am aware that there are politicians who show up at the U.N. to make very stupid takes. The person cited here tried to be more reasonable and tried to consult with civil society before saying something.
One of the things which someone might expect me to do is to pretend that things which millions of people have done on a regular basis for decades are novel and only started happening very recently because that was when it caught person x's attention.
If you are thinking that a lot of this stuff is fairly common sense, well, it should be, but bad takes still seem to be a thing.
