It's not surprising that someone decided to shutdown what appears to be their bot gimmick / toy instance.

It appears to have started off as someone's simple C wrapper for rendering webpages and ended up being used for a lot more by a lot more people. This is why so many functions look like they have been plucked right out of C.

PHP is short for Personal Home Page. This acronym came off as a bit weak though, so they ended up saying that it means PHP Hypertext Preprocessor later on.

Also, from what I remember, PHP is an ultra specialized programming language which is only good for rendering simple web pages. Once you start adding additional functionality, it doesn't stack up very well.

There are quite a few potential blogging options, so I might play around with a few to figure out what might fit better.

I'm not going to use Wordpress. I'm honestly tired of Wordpress.

I don't really want to be troubleshooting (or writing extensions for) 20 year old PHP legacy code. I'd like to play with something which uses a more modern stack than that.

Even for something hosted, after the parent company bought Tumblr for a low price, they've been doing a poor job of moderation, still being censorious. Plus, I'd like to play with something more modern and fresh, it doesn't have to be something hot off the press, but not the same thing from twenty years ago.

Should I take tips (as in money, not advice) or something for the blog?

As an update, I've run into some technical issues while trying to set up a blog, so that might take a while longer.

1) It's not necessarily that easy to tell someone is depressed.

2) Maybe, someone filing a lawsuit claiming damages is not a reliable source.

3) Talking to someone might be overwhelming (and there is a good chance they'll dismiss whatever they say).

Another strike against dubs. If someone isn't taking watching as a passive opportunity to learn another language, then it's really not getting the full potential out of it.

It is also interesting how people kind of just let people get away with speculating things out of thin air like this, without any real basis for doing so, even though it is a very serious accusation to make.

It's like saying "someone who is known to speak to therapists committed suicide, this means that therapists make people commit suicide".

There are a couple of initiatives to do with VAWG at the U.N. (run by politicians) which basically take political talking points and dress them up as "ideas", even when these "ideas" are extremely flimsy and bring the entirety of the U.N. into disrepute.

I am aware that there are politicians who show up at the U.N. to make very stupid takes. The person cited here tried to be more reasonable and tried to consult with civil society before saying something.

It's silly to try to "connect" a suicide to someone using a chatbot for romantic reasons when it could equally be that people who are depressed might use such bots. Also, anecdote.

One of the things which someone might expect me to do is to pretend that things which millions of people have done on a regular basis for decades are novel and only started happening very recently because that was when it caught person x's attention.

If you are thinking that a lot of this stuff is fairly common sense, well, it should be, but bad takes still seem to be a thing.

Oh, cool, bridges which don't work properly.

I'm not really interested in making an anti gun argument. But, please, don't make that stupid argument about how video games have anything to do with violence, when that has been thoroughly debunked.
