I won't dwell on this too much though as honestly this kind of discourse gets boring quickly (and eats up too much time).

It is better to focus on combatting censorship or something.

It reminds me a bit of that commentator who used to talk about how having sex with 15 or 16 year olds was okay, then he stopped doing that and shortly afterwards, he became "anti-anime" for a bit to virtue signal.

When someone is behaving in such an exaggerated fashion, it could be methinks the lady protest too much.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_lady Isn't it ironic when someone complains about an character supposedly looking "young", then it turns out they engage in something similar or worse? There were even outright criminals.

There is a weird phenomena where someone condemns something because it looks "young", then it turns out that person has been doing something similar (there are even those who commit outright crimes).

It's kind of nuts that a thesaurus blocked VPNs. You should be able to read them with one.

When it comes to algorithms, there are bigger fish to fry, such as use in war, use in the criminal justice system, and so on. This is a distraction.

"Company claims First Amendment rights infringed by law, protecting 170M users from potential Chinese threats."
This is such a bad framing. Notice how it ignores the individual speech rights of the users or creators who rely on the platform.

I don't get why someone would give Character AI such a hard time. It's literally just a site for playing with silly chatbots.

Someone might come up with something like "just find an instance with a high standard of free expression, maybe for say roleplay", however, that is easier said than done for a newbie.

You kind of already have to know the unspoken rules and where that might be.

I think that in the end, the European Commission stopped that German media authority which was going crazy censoring people while going on about "age verification".

Does Threads still have an issue with VPNs?

Some good news on the Facebook front when it comes to Threads and the fediverse. Threads has apparently ceased to block entire instances on a puritanical basis.

Not only does Mastodon have a bigger character limit, but you can theoretically use an instance with a more generous limit than that. With Bluesky, you can't.

It's interesting how there's less interest in using Egyptian mythology in stories now.

Jojo has a reference to the Book of Thoth (the manga is decades old), Yu-Gi-Oh was about a reincarnated pharaoh who plays a magical card game, and The Mummy.

Do you remember that Stargate film with the flying pyramid?

When you quickly glance at a headline about the Stargate AI thing and you think for a moment that it's about some sort of sci-fi novel / show.

While governments might play a role in censorship, a lot of it has nothing to do with them.

"AI" is in quotes because it's not intelligent.
