Small #introduction. I may redo that tomorrow or later but for the time being:
Hi everyone!
aquietjune, she/her, a thousand year witch who wants to be on the fediverse to discuss #anime and #manga (and sometimes #fanfic #writing and occasionally #cosplay?).
Main fandoms atm: #AttackOnTitan, #Umineko
Some stuff I’m reading & passionate about:
* #SpyXFamily
* #OshiNoKo
* #HousekiNoKuni (ahahah)
I’m rereading #DGrayMan (my heart etc etc)
Currently watching:
* #Monster (Naoki Urosawa)
* #MyHappyMarriage
* #UndeadMurderFarce
* #LinkClick
I like #horror and fictional #witches. I like the weird but also melodramas. Friend me?
Some thoughts I’m having (again) about stories:
I’m not interested in finding out about the twist before it happens.
Unless the author asks me to solve the mystery, or to question everything that is said, openly or though subtext (eg Umineko), I want to be surprised by the developments of the story; I want the whole setup payoff affair and the narrative devices to work as intended; I want to experience fiction at its fullest, trusting the author has my best interests at heart.
I think it’s an act of generosity that is needed given that stories structures and dynamics are in the end limited.

Linus giving Nvidia the middle finger here is kind of inappropriate but it should give you an idea of what I think of these shenanigans.

the kaguya-sama movie/mini-season was great. for what starts out as a comedy about two idiots who are in love, the character development and introspection they went through these last four episodes was honestly amazing. i cried #KaguyaSama
I remember when this was a book.
It's amazing how much of a difference in nostalgia playing Game Boy Advance games on my #SteamDeck has with filters off vs having them on. This is Pokemon Emerald running with lcd-shader-gba-color.glsp as a shader in Retroarch.
It emulates the shitty LCD frame blur and dimmed colors of the original GBA I grew up with, and honestly, while not being a 1:1 effect with the original, it just feels "right".
I used to think I hated Shaders but it turns out people just used inaccurate ones. This's gr8
Appreciate your friends, family, and especially lovers. Say hi to them once in a while instead of being absorbed in whatever you typically do. Tell them that you appreciate/love them and actually mean it. Realize that there is a possibility they might not always be there.
Don't obsess over it of course, because then you're not enjoying the time you have with them, you're watching a clock dreading every second passing instead of putting all your focus on to the people who mean something to you.
@olives There's good dubs. Black Lagoon comes to mind, and so does Cowboy Bebop. But that's about it.
One of the problems you tend to run into with #anime dubs is the delayed release problem.
Let's say an episode comes out in Japan. If you're someone who watches the subs, you can watch it almost immediately.
If you watch dubs, you got to wait a month for that release.
You also lose some of that foreign culture exposure / foreign language practice, which frankly, is missing a good part of what gives it value.
If you learn Japanese entirely from anime though, you're going to sound like an anime character to anyone there, lol.
And there are so many ways for the quality of the content to degrade.
It also tends to get a bit less quirky and tends to get flatter, and I really think the world could do with more quirky and "weird" content, not less of it.
That is simply... More interesting.
