I'm not asking for a whole lot by pointing out bad instances. Just two things:
1) Don't use them.
2) Don't recommend them.
I'm not asking anyone to reform them or whatever.
I'm not asking anyone to not use any particular social network either, because frankly, a lot of the time someone kind of has too.
In fact, I think RMS was almost finished off a few years ago, probably largely because he didn't have a social media presence.

You know what, just because I can, let's do a poll.

Email addresses are a form of PII which people casually collect all the time, even though they often don't really need to. I'd like to do things differently here.
I don't really want to be collecting lots of PII either.
Email subscriptions are one possible option but it would take a fair bit more complexity, particularly to reduce the probability of a mail provider deciding to just toss the thing in spam. Would readers regularly check emails?
I'd like to have a fairly simple way for someone to subscribe to it (let's hope this doesn't mean federating it, lol).
One of the problems I always ran into when trying to keep up with a few blogs was having to check in on it every day or every week. I prefer to just have the updates flow in as they're made. I figure that others would be similar.
One option might be something like RSS (I'm curious how many folks use things like RSS readers, this is usually a feature which is in demand when someone is building sites). Are there other things which someone might also want?
I'm thinking that if I'm going to target a wider audience (other than just a few developers), then I might have to do something more than just bare minimum theming (even if there is a minimalistic appeal to it).
Then again, quite a few more mainstream themes have been moving towards minimalism these days.
